Would You Take This Job? – Furniture Restoration Lead (Refinishing) PT

Furniture Restoration Lead (Refinishing)

Employer: Manzi Appraisers & Restoration
Location: Woburn, MA (in-person; local to shop)
Pay: $25–$30 / hour (based on experience)
Type: Part-time — Furniture restoration / refinishing (shop-based)

What You’ll Do:
Lead restoration and refinishing projects for fine and antique furniture: strip and prep surfaces, repair veneers and structural damage, match and blend stains, apply topcoats by hand and spray techniques, perform quality control, and manage shop scheduling. You’ll mentor junior technicians and coordinate orders to meet client timelines.

Why It Stands Out:
• Craft-focused role working on high-value and antique pieces — strong fit for experienced finishers.
• Leadership opportunity — supervise projects and guide junior staff.
• Competitive regional pay for restoration work and hands-on skill development.

Potential Trade-offs:
• Exposure to solvents and finishing chemicals — PPE and proper ventilation required.
• In-person only — must be local or willing to commute to the workshop.
• Work can be physically detailed and schedule may vary with project load.

This role is a great match if you enjoy hands-on refinishing and leading shop projects. Would you take this job — or should I pull another refinishing or antique restoration listing in a different region?

The one thing that saves me time on antique tops is oxalic acid to erase black water rings after stripping, then a 1‑lb cut shellac washcoat before any toner - keeps blotch down and makes color-corrections easy. Also, for loose veneer, a syringe of warm hide glue and a household iron through kraft paper beats clamps in tight spots.
