I’ve been working on a Georgian sideboard from the late 1700s and wanted to share some of the techniques I’ve found most effective. Using a combination of shellac and natural oils for the finish really brings out the wood’s natural beauty while preserving its history. Has anyone else tackled a similar project? I’d love to hear your experiences or tips.
I’ve found that using a fine steel wool to gently clean the surface before applying any finish really helps in removing old grime without damaging the wood. It’s amazing how much more vibrant the wood looks afterward. Have you considered that approach?
Sounds like a great project — i’ve had success using a mix of linseed oil and turpentine for deep conditioning. Have you tried that yet?
