Mycelium foam in seat cushions

Has anyone put mycelium-grown cores into high-traffic dining chairs? I piloted six chairs (45 cm seat) with a mycelium core wrapped in hemp canvas, and after 10 weeks in a neighborhood café the front edge is compressing — did a thin wool felt interlayer, denser growth, or a recycled-PET blend help without compromising circularity?

I ran into the same “front edge is compressing” and fixed it by stitching a 25 mm hemp herringbone webbing band along the front edge under the hemp canvas, spot-bonded to the mycelium with casein — fully compostable and it’s stayed firm after 16 weeks in a café. What seat radius are you running at the nose?

I’ve found that adding a thicker layer of felt on top can help with compression over time. Have you considered adjusting the mycelium density as well?
