Creating Unique Pieces with Clients

I’ve been diving deeper into custom furniture making lately, and one thing I’ve learned is the importance of really collaborating with clients to bring their vision to life. Just last week, I worked with a couple who wanted a dining table that reflected their travels, and it turned into a stunning piece featuring reclaimed wood and intricate inlays. How do you all ensure that you capture your clients’ personalities in your designs?

Collaborating closely with clients is essential. I recently made a coffee table that featured a map inlay of a couple’s favorite vacation spot, and they were thrilled! A tip I’d suggest is to start with a mood board together; it really helps clarify their vision early on. It’s fascinating to see how personal experiences translate into the final piece.

Bringing a client’s vision to life can be a real challenge! I once made a custom bench that incorporated their family crest, and it required a ton of back-and-forth to get the details right. It’s exhausting at times, but seeing their faces light up when it’s complete makes it all worth it.
