We cut LTL freight 14% by standardizing flatpack cartons to a 40x48 pallet footprint and keeping the long side under 105" to dodge oversize fees. QC caveat: we added honeycomb corner blocks to keep 44 ECT or damages crept up — . > Anyone testing mycelium panels for seating — we trialed them and saved weight but needed thicker spacers, which bumped cube and erased the freight gains, so run the DIM calc first.
Quick win for us was moving heavier flatpacks to slip-sheets with push/pull — gained about 2 inches of trailer cube and dropped pallet weight, saving about 4–6% per load… Caveat: only works if the receiver has the attachment; we add cornerboards and a PE layer to keep edges from scuffing, @lognguy.
Swapping foam corner blocks for paper honeycomb rails and adding a hinge-score to drop carton height by about 0.6 in let us squeeze 3–4% more cube per trailer and shave freight a bit — fits the “sustainability” push. Caveat: honeycomb hates humidity; we had to bump ECT and add a kraft wrap on summer runs or edge crush goes -fast; curious if @luna35 has run this on long-haul; molded pulp might still be safer on wet routes.
Swapped pallets for slip sheets and floor-loaded the flatpack; netted about 1.5 in vertical back and 3–4% more cube per 53’, trimming freight about 2%/unit. QC stayed solid after adding anti-skid tier sheets and a quick corner-crush check, but it only works if receivers have “push–pull” attachments — @luna35 that constraint makes or breaks it.
